You Know My Way (A Poem)

Inspired by Psalm 142

Though famine eats the work of my hands
and I have nothing in return,
My eyes will look up to You
and say, “You are my portion.”

When the shadowed valley gives no light
and I walk in blind anxiety,
I follow the faithful hands
of my Shepherd who leads me.

You are my refuge and mighty shield
when evil seems before and behind.
While trouble bellows and reels,
You work Your sovereign design.

My spirit faints, but You know my way.
You are the God who attends my plea –
Life from death and good from evil,
You will deal bountifully with me.
